凯西: Is there a lot of crime in your city?

你们国家犯罪现象多吗?

杰克: There`s some, but I don`t think it`s a big problem. A lot of it is petty crime, burglary and car theft. There`s very little major crime.

有是有一些，但是我不认为是什么大问题。许多都是盗窃偷车什么的。比较大的案件不是很多。

凯西: It`s the same in my city. We also have a lot of drug addicts. A lot of the crime is committed by drug addicts who need money for drugs.

我所在的城市也是这样。我们还有一些贩毒现象。许多犯罪都是由于吸毒的人需要钱买毒品所导致的。

杰克: That happens in many places. In my city, there is a very good drug rehabilitation program. The police and courts are also tough on people who commit crimes, but I don`t know if that`s the reason for our relatively low crime rate.

这在许多地方都很普遍。在我们市，有一个很好的反毒计划。所以其他犯罪率也就不高了。

凯西: Some people believe that a tough approach is better. Others prefer a more lenient approach.

一些人认为严格的政策比较好，而另一些人认为宽松点好。

杰克: I think that the best way to reduce crime is to spread wealth more evenly. If most people have similar amounts of money, they will not think of stealing from others.

我认为最好的减少犯罪的方法是发展经济。如果大家都有了很多的钱，就不会去想着别人的。

凯西: That`s possible, but I`m not sure it would really happen like that .
